Hills have advanced to the preliminary
final of the metropolitan B-grade softball
competition after downing Seacombe 9-5 in
last Saturday’s semifinal.
Seacombe were able to score two runs in its first
batting dig through a walk to Georgie Williams and hits
to Madison Rocher, April Goldring and Kerrie Harriden.
Hills fought back to get three quick outs, with an out at
first base by Tahlia Larosa, a put out at home plate and
out at first by Britt Jackson.
Despite hits to Larosa and Em Hopkins, Hills were
unable to score in its initial innings with a catch to short
stop Williams, a strike-out to Harriden and a put out at
third by Harriden.
Despite a double to Cody Thompson, Seacombe
were unable to add to its score, with a catch to Michelle
Davis, and two strike-outs to Larosa.
Hills were unable to score once again, despite a
double to Meg Chaplin, with two K2s to Harriden and
an out at first by Sarah Williamson.
Seacombe were able to score one further run in its
next dig through a walk to Rocher, and hits to Goldring,
Harriden, Erin Harris and Thompson, but were soon
shut down with an out at first by Larosa, a tag out at
home by ‘Reggie’ Fairley and an out at first by Davis.
Three consecutive outs closed the hope of Hills to
reduce the deficit, with a catch to Nikki Pennfold, a
catch to Harriden and an out at first by Williamson.
Despite a walk to Rocher, Seacombe were unable to
score with a strike-out to Hopkins, an out at first by
Hopkins and a catch to Larosa.
Hills came out firing in its next innings, scoring four
runs with hits to Hopkins, Jackson, Alex Mackay,
Chaplin, Cherie Bamford, Davis and Jess Hall, before
being shut down through a catch to Pennfold, a strike-
out to Harriden and a tag out at third by Rocher.
Despite a single to Goldring, Seacombe were unable
to score once again, with a catch to Bamford, a K2 to
Hopkins and an out at first by Davis.
Hills came out busy with the bat once again, scoring
four further runs through hits to Hopkins, Jackson, Lou
Bartle, Chaplin, Bamford and Davis.
Fielding highlights included a catch to Pennfold, a
catch to Rocher and an out at first by Williamson.
Good fielding by Hills, despite a HPB to Mikayla
Pearton and a walk to Rocher, helped hold Seacombe
scoreless, with an out at first by Jackson, a catch to
Jackson and a catch to Davis.
Hills were able to score one further run, with hits
to Hopkins and Bartle, but were shut down with two
strike-outs to Harriden and an out at first by Rocher.
Hits to Goldring, Harris and Thompson, and a walk to
Harriden, enabled two runs to be scored before being
shut down through a force out at second base, a put
out by Larosa at first and a line drive catch to Davis.
Hills ended with victory by four runs, and have
advanced through to Wednesday’s preliminary final
against Sturt, and a chance to qualify for the title

Brodie Tischer had a good hit to centre field
but was unable to get past second base as

went cheaply with a fly back to Echunga

try and peg it back and not allow Echunga

Hampel was up first again to bat, hitting out
to left field but only managing a two-bagger

worked well to get Leach out on a K2.
Gogel’s hit went straight to Alisha Golding
at first for the out, while Hood, Karayiannis
had good hits before Jett Sinnott hit one to
Rist at left field, but not before three runners
Echunga were in good shape going out
to field, just needing to play good softball,
but with Hampel pitching well for Echunga,
Redsox were managing to get bat on ball.
Ballard got a hit to centre field, Jasmine
Sward was unlucky to hit one straight to first
base for an out, while Rist got on base by
Echunga’s pitcher Hampel and catcher
Smith did well to dismiss Devon McAnna for
a K2 and Ballard and Rist got home before
Golding hit one to Gogel at short stop for
the third out.
The Demons led 8-4 moving into the third
dig where Tischer hit to centre field to make
it to first base.
Richardson was then out with a throw
from Ballard to Golding at first, Hampel’s hit
managed to find Megson at short stop for

It was now time for Redsox to make some
runs or risk losing the game.
Redsox batters came in firing with hits

Redsox had then sneaked ahead to lead

Using Modball rules, Echunga and
Redsox Blue teams were enthusiastic to
demonstrate how the skills have improved
over the season.
Austin Hamilton of Redsox Blue had strong
form early in the first innings with tight
fielding and later a spectacular catch as
Echunga’s Zac Ahlburg and Patrick Butler
came out swinging with both hitting strongly
to the outfield.
Redsox Blue replied with Stephanie Gower
keeping her eye on the ball and hitting well.
Maddison Beck of Echunga had a fantastic
innings as catcher, collecting throws from
all over the diamond.
Kaiden Martin from Redsox Blue had an
exceptional second innings in the field,
making several plays including a fantastic
throw to first from third base.
Echunga’s Tristan Brown sent his hit well
into the outfield and Echunga displayed
fantastic running between bases.
Ashleigh Gower and Makayla Gower of
Redsox Blue both had powerful hits off first
pitches in their third innings and ran well
Echunga’s Tricia Wilks and Charlie Askew
relayed the ball in well from the outfield,
demonstrating team spirit.
Emma Karayiannis was very sneaky
around the diamond, stealing bases for
Aiden Crowe from Redsox Blue enjoyed
being the final hitter and bringing his team
home in the fourth innings with a nice infield
Overall it was a solid effort from both teams
for the closing match of the T-ball season.
