The Adelaide Hills Council is
spending another $80,000 on
consultants so it can push ahead
with plans to sell sections of the
old woollen mill at Lobethal,
now a business hub known as
the Adelaide Hills Business and
Tourism Centre (AHBTC).
The money will be used to
investigate costs for essential
infrastructure work before any
sale can go ahead and to work out
options for selling sections under
The council also plans to talk to
existing tenants about a "right of
first refusal to purchase" before
it finalises any community titling
The council spent $70,000 on
consultants and advisers last year
to look at what had to be done to
the century-old complex to fulfil the
business, heritage and community
directions laid down in the AHBTC
Selling off commercial sections of
the mill to pay for the upkeep and
upgrading of other areas is a key
element of the masterplan.
A recent report to elected members
said "considerable progress" had
been made but investigations had
raised a number of issues that had
to be resolved.
Those issues included separation
of services such electricity and
water, $1m worth of infrastructure
work on the northern side and the
removal of an underground storage
The council is also working on
retaining public space at the mill
and an interpretation plan for
the Onkaparinga Woollen Mill
Councillors are planning to visit

Today the opera lover s life is heading in a
very different direction.
Mr Sandford s passion for music began as a
child, but it was an amateur performance of
the musical Les Mis rables in 2012 that set
the stage for his opera career.
After impressing fellow actors with his
performance, Mr Sandford begun voice
lessons with "iconic tenor" Thomas Edmonds
who encouraged him to audition for the State
Opera SA (SOSA).
Since then Mr Sandford has performed in
various SOSA productions, including the
opera Otello, and was selected to be in the
Young Artists Program -- a training program
for young Australian opera singers.
Discovering a fresh confidence in his
abilities and an unexpected passion for
opera, Mr Sandford abandoned his teaching
aspirations to focus on performing.
This year the tenor will play a minor role in
SOSA s performance of The Magic Flute -- but
he doesn t plan to stop there.
The 29-year-old said his best years are yet

I m in my 40s," he said.

Mr Sandford was drawn to both massage
and opera through a desire to connect with
and help people -- but it is music that he said
had real power to move people.
"Music itself is something that s able to
transcend barriers -- language barriers,
cultural barriers -- to tell timeless stories
about people," he said.
"Music transcends barriers where massage

relationship that I have with an audience."
