Mt Torrens Red and Birdwood met
for the second time this season,
with the Red team once again
victorious in Torrens Valley A/B-
grade tennis action last Saturday.
The Red combination started well taking
the first three doubles, before Birdwood
claimed the fourth with Renee Gripton and
Monica Ancell winning 6-4.
Mt Torrens Red surged ahead again taking
the top three singles, Eric Harrison with a
6-3 win against Brad Green, while Dillon
Cotton played his best tennis of the season
with a 6-1 victory over Jed Russell.
Robert Young and Hayden Watson
continued their history of epic encounters,
with Young just getting across the line 7-5.
Birdwood’s middle order then showed
some grunt with a strong 6-1 victory to
Nick Wheeler over Cam Smart with Andrew
Green also too good for Cain Sumner with
a 6-1 win as well.
Emily Grafton swung the momentum back
to Mt Torrens with a 6-3 win over Kirsten
Low, while Jeremy Levinson played his first
competition match in nine years won 7-5 in
a tiebreaker against Gripton.
Bec Grafton played her first match of the
season for Mt Torrens Red and had a good
hit out against Ancell, with a 6-4 result
going Birdwood’s way.
Mt Torrens Red sealed its win with 6-4
victory in the reverse doubles to Harrison,
Young and Cotton, Smart and also the
Birdwood’s A. Green and Gripton bagged
a 6-3 win bringing final scores to Mt Torrens
Red 11-81 to Birdwood’s 5-69.
The final result may have been an easy
win to Mt Pleasant over Gumeracha,
however, the end result didn’t indicate how
close some of the matches were.
Gumeracha could’ve sprung a surprise
with some luck.
Half of the results were 6-4 and above with
five tiebreakers for the afternoon.
The first round of doubles featured three

The third double resulted in Gumeracha’s
Alex Mattschoss and Dean Olsen having
a close battle as well against Claudia

Jake Maczkowiack for Mt Pleasant had a
good battle against wily Mark Lang, with
plenty of searchingly long rallies.

The other result saw Kersbrook have an
easy win over Mt Torrens black.
Mt Torrens Black got off to a good start with
the number one doubles pairing of James
Wilhelm and Josh Pym have a good 6-2 win
over Adam Wake and Malcolm Bergman.
Kersbrook managed to win the remaining
three, with Charlie Graeber and Jordan
Wake having a 6-3 win over Daniel Pym
and Ed Mattschoss.
Kersbrook put the foot down and ran away,
winning seven of the singles.
Pym was the only victor for the Black’s,
defeating Bergman 7-5 and Kersbrook won
three of the reverse doubles to win 13 sets
Springton 5-33 defeated Mt Pleasant
Top doubles resulted in Samuel Beeson
and Luke Rodigeiro slugging it out, with
Connor Van Balen and Alistair Seager the
game going Springton’s way 6-3
Nikki Rawlings and Lana Beeson were
very evenly matched, with Annaliese Noack
and Lexie Seager’s long match again going
Springton’s way 6-4
S. Beeson played well to defeat Van Balen
Rodigeiro and Noack had a close one with
Luke winning a tie breaker 7-6.
N. Rawlings also played well beating L
Mount Pleasant’s win coming from A.
Seager, who served well to defeat L
Playing in cooler conditions was welcomed
by all the players at Kersbrook which
resulted in Harrogate defeating Kersbrook
6-45 to 3-32.
Harrogate set up its win in the doubles,
winning all three, which were evenly
Mitchell Gates and Riley O’Shea had a
good 6-4 win over Kalan Tucker/Belinda
The singles were evenly contested with
both sides winning three each.
The best of them was the top single with
Blake Hogben of Harrogate and Will Tagg
having a marathon battle with the final
score going 6-2 Hogben’s way.
Tucker’s and Coates both won their singles
against Gates and Mitchell Pym, with both
matches having lots of deuce games.
Fill in Jordan Pym for Harrogate had a 6-0
win over Ethan Porter and the last single
resulted in Kersbrook’s Charlotte Edwards
defeating Mitchell Gates 6-2.
It was an overcast and miserable looking
day when Mt. Pleasant hosted Kersbrook
for D-grade tennis.
Luckily the rain stayed away, and even
though it was cold, both teams played
really well in both their single and doubles
Mt Pleasant won five of the singles 4-1 and
Kersbrook managed to win the other 4-0 .
Mt Pleasant won all the doubles to win 8-1.
